7 Common Search Engine Optimization Mistakes to Avoid

Currently, search engine optimization is one of the best ways for the web site to generate targeted web traffic and visitors. And the more targeted web traffic from the search engines the more income the web site owner can generate. However, in order to get such targeted visitor traffic, the web sites must have a high ranking in the search engines, as well as reliable, “sticky” information for the visitors.

Search engine optimization can maximize and generate targeted visitor traffic for businesses. Unfortunately, a lot of web sites owners, web designers and webmasters do not know or have common misconceptions about search engine optimization.

And as the results of those misconception, here is the list of 7 common mistakes that many web designer/developer/owner committed.

Mistake 1: do not use the keywords efficiently. Keywords are very effective in terms of web traffic. It is the best way for the search engines to rank the web sites. The keywords must be the key for the visitors to locate the web site easily, especially in the TITLE tag or TITLE of your webpage/article.

Mistake 2: false presumption about search engines. A lot of people presume that all search engines work the same: the same ranking algorithm, the same display, the same concept. Although they may display the results on the Search Engine Results Page (SERP) the same, the ranking algorithm of Google, Yahoo, and MSN is no where near the same! Thus, make sure to learn about the appropriate requirements of each search engine and optimize for each search engine “appropriately”.

Mistake 3: using the hidden text to increase keyword counts. The keywords should not be hidden or invisible. There are clever designers who hide keywords by making it appears as the same color with the web site background. Of course, the search engines have already detected this ’sneak’ stuffing years ago =P.

Mistake 4: raiding the pages and other web sites. It is important for the web designer to know how important links are. Most of the time, there are web designers who rob icons from other web sites and use it for their own purpose. The web designers should have a unique idea of their own. Search engines are very powerful in detecting the web sites that have the same icon content. It is very important in order to prevent the web sites from being out listed in the main search engines.

Mistake 5: using keywords that are not connected to their web sites. One thing that they should do is to maintain web sites that have protocol. The unconnected topics and keywords must be removed. Remember search engines are smart, it can consider the page as spam and be automatically eliminated from the list.

Mistake 6: having stuffed keywords. There are web sites that have a multiple graphic description. Stuffed keywords can make the web sites layered and appeared awkward to the search engines. If the search engines detected the web site parameter that contains massive amount of keywords and graphics, the search engine can consider the web site as spam.

Mistake 7: replicating similar keywords. There are webmasters who keeps on repeating the same keywords over and over again. It is called keyword stocking. As a result, the search engine may skip the page or the entire web site.

Avoid committing those mistakes above and your web sites will gain higher search engine ranking and it will also help keep the web sites from being banned by the search engines. Also, if the web sites has a lot of visitors, the profit potential from monetizing the visitor traffic can be increased by leaps and bounds.
